Join 'Friends of Wigton Baths' today!
We need support with a whole range of things to suit everyone's abilities such as:
Decorating
DIY
Repair work (plastering, electrical, etc)
Gardening and weeding
Deep cleaning changing rooms and pool resources
Organising and delivering fundraising and marketing events
Helping to advertise promotions
Obtaining raffle prizes
Selling raffle tickets
Writing reports for the quarterly newsletter or website
Sourcing new/cheaper resources and equipment
(such as new lockers, storage containers for pool equipment, cleaning products, etc)
With a small team of volunteer Trustees and Pool Staff, it is difficult to get the manpower and time to cover lots of little jobs without accruing significant costs to the Baths. As a charity organisation our funding is low and the cost of getting specialist professionals in for every job (on average, callout fees alone cost between £100-£500 before any work has even been done, so that plus any parts and work required) would force us to hike up the pool usage prices which would then impact everyone attending the pool.
We want to keep our prices as low as possible for you, particularly at present with the cost of living crisis affecting so many of us; so if you can offer a couple of hours as often as you can to help out on odd jobs, such as those mentioned above or anything you have noticed you would like changed, we can continue to run as a low-cost pool and benefit the community's health and social wellbeing.
We are finalists!
Earlier this year BBC Radio Cumbria announced their Make A Difference Awards categories for volunteers who deserve recognition within Cumbria. Upon seeing the categories, our volunteer Trustees knew instantly that our amazing Friends of Wigton Baths volunteer group needed to be recognised and so entered a nomination - they had no idea!
Well, they've only gone and been shortlisted! We are all so proud and beyond grateful for all the amazing work our Friends of Wigton Baths group do, from maintenance and decorating, to gardening and fundraising - we cannot thank you all enough for the time and effort you all put into keeping YOUR community pool open.
The finals are in September and we wish our volunteer Friends of Wigton Baths the best of luck - you're all winners to us!
